Are you looking for an effective way to promote your business events and upcoming product launches to your customers? Adding a banner to your Gmail email signature can be a great solution! This visual element can grab the attention of your customers and provide them with important information, including a link to a relevant webpage for more information.

A banner allows you to reach a wide audience through your email communication. Depending on who you (or your entire company) send emails to, your banner could potentially reach thousands of people very easily. This is a great way to boost numbers for your next event, without too much effort.

Before Starting

Adding a banner to an Gmail email signature is fairly easy when you follow our step-by-step instructions below. However, you will first need to download a banner template and modify it as needed.

To make sure your banner displays properly on mobile devices, a good rule of thumb is to set the size of the banner (in HTML) to about 1/3 of its original dimensions. However, this can only be done by altering the dimensions of the image in the HTML code of your email signature, or by using a tool like Gimmio.

Before following the instructions below, you should first resize the downloaded banner image to the exact size you want it to be in the email signature since the size cannot be changed in the email signature itself.

Step 4

In the “Add an image” window, you can either select “Web Address (URL)” or “Upload”.

With the “Web Address (URL)” option, you can put in the URL of a publicly hosted banner to use in your email signature.

If choosing the “Upload” option, you can simply upload a banner image directly from your computer.

For this tutorial, we will use the “Upload” option.

In the middle of the window, click on “Select a file from your device”.

Step 8

In the “Edit Link” window, enter the Web address for the website you want to link to.

You could link the banner to your own website if you’re having a sales promotion, or to a third-party website to collect customer reviews. There are many options when linking, and the most suitable one will depend on the type of banner you use.

If you want to link an email address (eg. make a “mailto:” link), you can select the Email address radio button and that will make the banner a clickable email address link which will open a new window to compose a new message when someone clicks on it. This could be a good idea if you have a “contact us” or “email us for more details” type of button in your banner.

When done, click the “OK” button to add the hyperlink to your banner.

Since the Gmail app for iOS uses the email signature that you configure in the browser version of Gmail (when “Mobile signature” is turned off in your Gmail app), we recommend simply adding your banner using the above instructions. Once you’ve done that, the banner should be shown when you send emails from your Gmail app as well.

How to Add a Banner in Gmail (Android)

The Gmail app for Android currently supports only plain-text email signatures. This means you won’t be able to add a banner using the Gmail App for Android.
