In this post, we will show you step by step how to easily add social icons to your Gmail email signature, so you can promote your brand and stay connected with your professional network.

Including social media icons in your email signature is a simple yet effective way to showcase your online profiles and connect with potential clients, customers, and professional contacts.

Staying in touch with your contacts on social media, allows you to stay up to date on each other’s professional endeavors and build stronger relationships. Also, many businesses use social media to collect customer reviews and feedback, which often boosts the confidence of prospective clients.

Before Starting

Before adding social icons to your Gmail email signature, you will first need to download the icons you require. These icons are small images that represent popular social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

In order for your social icon images to be mobile optimized, the images should be scaled down to about 1/3 of the actual size as this allows for mobile display scaling. However, this can only be done by either changing the height and width of the rendered image in the HTML file of the email signature or by using Gimmio to create your email signature.

Before following the instructions below, you should first resize the downloaded social icon images to be the same size as the rest of the icons in your email signature.

Step 4

In the “Add an image” window, you can either select “Web Address (URL)” or “Upload”.

With the “Web Address (URL)” option, you can put in the URL of a publicly hosted social icon to use in your email signature.

If choosing the “Upload” option, you can simply upload a social icon image directly from your computer.

For this tutorial, we will use the “Upload” option.

In the middle of the window, click on “Select a file from your device”.

Step 8

In the “Edit Link” window, enter the Web address for the website you want to link to. For social icons, this is usually the link to your social profile (eg. https://www.facebook.com/<your-profile>)

If you want to link an email address (eg. make a “mailto:” link), you can select the Email address radio button and that will make the icon a clickable email address link which will open a new window to compose a new message when someone clicks on it. This is useful if you have an “email envelope” style social icon in your signature.

When done, click the “OK” button to add the hyperlink to your social icon.

Repeat steps 3-8 for every social icon you wish to add to your Gmail email signature.

When you’re finished adding your social icon(s), scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page, and click on “Save Changes”.

How to Add Social Icons in Gmail App (iOS – iPhone/iPad)

Since the Gmail app for iOS uses the email signature that you configure in the browser version of Gmail (when “Mobile signature” is turned off in your Gmail app), we recommend simply adding your social icons using the above instructions. Once you’ve done that, the social icons should be shown when you send emails from your Gmail app as well.
